On the Personal Side...

Last night we returned from a whirlwind trip to Florida to celebrate the life of Kurt's beloved Aunt Marilyn, who passed away last week. It was an emotional weekend, but we are so glad we were able to go and be with dear family whom we love so much.

Life has really "happened" to us a lot in the last year. We've had loved ones to pass away, others to go through serious illness, and have dealt with other personal struggles, including the ongoing threat of Kurt losing his job. God has been faithful to walk with us through all of this and to remind us of what's truly important in life.

I'm telling you all of this because it's going to affect my blogging to a certain extent. Up until now, this blog has mainly been about homeschooling. Yes, I've occasionally written about other topics, but I've not truly left my comfort zone to write about more personal issues. I feel like God is nudging me to open up a bit more on here about some of the things I've been dealing with and some of the lessons He's been teaching me.

Also, I want to mention here that back in January I talked with the wonderful folks that are in charge of The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew. I explained to them some of the issues that I had been dealing with, and asked to be taken off the crew. They were so very supportive and graciously let me off the hook. I did tell them that as soon as I was able, I would finish out reviews for any products I had received. I am now at a place where I can jump in and finish these up, so over the next few weeks, you'll see several reviews here. I'm excited about many of these products, so I hope you'll find the posts helpful.

So...you won't see any drastic changes around here - just a tendency to open up more about the nitty gritty of my real life. And I'll still be posting just as much about our homeschooling adventures as I always have!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Shannon, I only recently discovered your blog while writing my own post on returning to the Charlotte Mason approach to home schooling in our family. I subscribed to it in Google Reader. I am looking forward to reading whatever you have to say. Your new focus in your blog is similar to what I do, though I ended up splitting out most of my home schooling stuff into three other blogs based on grade level. (We have been doing this with 10 kids for almost 20 years, so we have kids in preschool/elementary, middle school, and high school, as well as three who have graduated.)

My main blog is www.VirginiaKnowles.blogspot.com. My home schooling blogs are www.StartWellHomeSchool.blogspot.com, www.ContinueWellHomeSchool.blogspot.com and www.FinishWellHomeSchool.blogspot.com. I also have a blog to encourage overwhelmed moms at www.ComeWearyMoms.blogspot.com.

Many blessings to you and yours!

  2. Shannon, I'm with you...it's good to write about homeschooling, however it's good also to write about matters of the heart. With eagerness, I'll read whatever the Lord puts on your heart to write.
    Take care!

  3. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. Isa 43:2

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer 29:11

Thank you for sharing your heart with us!
