A Gem of a Field Trip

This is part two of Wednesday's field trip post.

After we finished touring the caverns, we did some gem mining. For $4.00 we purchased a bag of "rough", gave each child a tray, turned them loose at the "sluice", and they had a blast.

I just had to include all of these photos because I love the looks of excitement on their little faces! I only wish the photos could have captured the squeals of delight that could be heard when each treasure was found.









Some of their finds...adventurine, obsidian, smoky quartz, crystal points, and citrine are a few we're sure of. Rock identification is hard, y'all!
A beautiful day and some sweet memories

We had so much fun, and the kids are still talking about it. This field trip is definitely one we'll do again sometime!
