Our All-Time Favorite Children's Books

I'm in the process of putting together our reading lists for each year that we've homeschooled so far.

In the meantime I thought I'd share our all-time favorites. These titles will also appear in my yearly lists, but these books are ones that the children asked for over and over again. These stories have become old friends to us over time.

I've categorized these somewhat loosely by grade level. Around here we usually all read together, so Sweet Pea and Giggly Girl cuddle up with us for the "primary" stories, and Superman can't tear himself away from the "preschool" stories. Please don't let the grade levels stop you from checking out any of these wonderful titles.

These favorites are just as much enjoyed by the grownups who read them aloud as they are by the children who gather round to listen to them. After all, as C.S. Lewis said, "No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond."
