After fourteen or so days of incubation, Mama Robin's little babies hatched! I took this photo today. (I think the babies are two days old now.) Mama is gone from the nest quite a bit now looking for food for her little ones. The children (ours - not the robin's) had been begging to see the babies, so during one of Mama's food outings we gingerly lifted each child up for a peek. Words cannot describe how tickled they were! The general consensus was that the baby birds were "kind of weird" looking, but we assured everyone that the bald little creatures would look more like birds in a few days.
For nature study this week, we sketched the robin's nest with her eggs from a photo I took two weeks ago.
