Jackie from the FIAR boards posted the wonderful idea of choosing a word that would reflect what you want your attitude, hopes, and resolutions to be for the New Year.
I had to think quite awhile to narrow it all down to one word. It really made me think long and hard about my role as wife, mother, daughter, friend.
Sooo, my word for 2008 is LOVE.
Love as in the Agape kind of love God talks about in I Corinthians 13.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Out of all the things that "love is" in these verses, I pray that God will cultivate kindness and patience in me most of all. At the end of the day, if I have gotten everything on my to-do list completed, but gone about it with the air of a drill sergeant, it amounts to nothing.
Lord, Let my husband and children be blessed by the light of Your love in my life in this coming year. Amen.
